Dunstable v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A on Tue 20 May 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Dunstable won by 23 runs
Match report
Berkhamsted lost the toss and was sent in to bat. We started brightly against very good bowling with a splendid opening partnership of 22 runs by Alex and Oliver. Alex on debut for the club scored 4*4 in his 20 runs and Oliver ran and batted sensibly for his 2 not out. The next two partnerships of Ben C and Austin and Christian and Daniel showed their inexperience but both pairs improved during their spell at the crease as their confidence grew. The last partnership of Peter and James Spall came to the crease when we were in serious trouble with a score on just 207 runs, Peter played a captains knock keeping his wicket in tact and scoring 3*4 in his 13 runs. James scored 3 runs not out. Good running led to 5 leg byes and a few wides left berko with a creditable score of 235-4
Dunstable then came to the crease and Peter took a wicket off the third ball. Their top batsman scored 12 runs but none of their other batsmen scored more than 6 runs. James Spall is developing as a wicket keeper and stopped all the balls that were within his reach. Our bowling showed our inexperience at times and we conceded 39 extras to Dunstables 18. This was the difference between the two sides.
The thing that pleased me the most was the fielding by all our players. You can learn skills but fighting spirit comes from the heart. Everyone worked hard in the field and this led to two players being run out. Ben C chased down a certain 4 as well as throwing the ball in so that a player was run out.
Peter captained the team and was a good example to his inexperienced side. He encouraged them and kept them all alert.
