Match report Very interesting friendly at Northchurch on a old fashioned "sticky dog" of a pitch. Berko captain Edward Butler-Caddle won his fourth toss in a row (his Dad should take him to Las Vegas) and Berko batted on a pitch where every second or third ball shot along the ground or "stopped" causing the batsmen lots of trouble. After a flying start from Theo Freedman who made a rapid 11 wickets fell consistently and after 7 overs we were struggling on 28 for 5. Then excellent batting from Jon Harvey (18), Ed Butler-Caddle (19) and Calum Miles (8 n.o) saw us through to a total of 95 from 22 overs.

Northchurch's innings got off to a horrible start with wickets tumbling one after another. Ethan Mackie was on a hat trick then bowled a beamer and Matt Hopkins took 2 caught and bowled in the same over. Star performer was born again leg spinner Nick Williams who took 2 for 1 and generally bamboozled the batsmen with flight and spin. After being reduced to 30 for 8 off 14 overs Northchurch restored some respectability with a fine undefeated partnership of 33 between George White and Alex Brazier but it was too little too late and Berko ran out comfortable winners.

Some nice hospitality from Northchurch who supplied sandwiches and cakes for the boys rounded off an enjoyable mornings cricket.
