Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C v Chorleywood on Mon 16 Jun 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 15 runs
Match report
A match of great incident and controversy resulted in Berko U12s preserving their unbeaten run with a 15 run win. Berko won the toss and batted in bright sunshine, Josh Roberts and Matt Hopkins attacking at every opportunity. Then Matt was run out by about 20 yards but controversially umpire Sgt Roberts said the keeper had disturbed the stumps before the ball arrived. Not out and Chorleywood not happy. Hopkins and then Rob Spencer both went for 8 but Roberts raced to 27 before being trapped LBW. After 13 overs we were 60 for 3 but then Jonathan Harvey went bonkers, taking 20 off an over incuding a huge six into the nearby field. Although Jon had to retire on 30, George Parker, Jacob Lewarne and Calum Miles kept the scoreboard ticking over and we finished on 123 for 6.
Chorleywood started like a train but they also lost a few wickets, Robert Spencer taking 3 early wickets. Opener Nazeby was a class act and was ruthless on anything short. He raced to 30 before retiring and it looked game on. Then Matt Hopkins and especially Jacob Lewarne who took 2 for 5 absolutely choked the innings with accurate bowling and Berko were coasting. Ben Towler standing in for Etahn Mackie did a great stumping to remove Bryant who was looking dangerous. Cue controversial plea from the opposition who with a man short asked to re-instate their opener Nazeby. Was this possible? No-one was sure so Nazeby then started taking apart the Berko bowlers with a ferocious assault. Thankfully he simply ran out of overs and was caught on the boundary going for one last six. Nazeby was out for 55 and Chorleywood finished on 108 after 3 hours of exciting tense cricket!
