Hemel Hempstead v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C on Mon 09 Jun 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 63 runs
Match report
An almost perfect summers evening saw our U12 bowlers rise to the occasion with a superb display of fast accurate bowling. Hemel went into the game leading the table after 5 wins out of 6 with Berko struggling to keep pace due to 3 rained off games - so a tough game was anticipated. Captain Josh Roberts won the toss and decided to bat, opening the innings with Ethan Mackie. Both played well and after 9 overs we were looking good at 52 for 2. However, leg spinner Langley and seamer Bateman really applied the brakes and for once our strong middle order did not fire. Langley removed Roberts for 26 and Berko were then grateful for a 30 partnership between George Parker and Jacob Lewarne who employed the tactic of "if you are going to snick, snick hard" against Hemels 2 quickest bowlers, Bexxon and White, leaving the home team a target of 98 to win.
Berkos bowlers then put in a very impressive display of bowling at middle stump. 8 out of the 9 dismissals were bowled and the 9th was a great catch by Nick Williams. Josh Roberts with 3 wickets and George Parker with 2 were the pick of the bowlers but every bowler performed well with the regular clatter of stumps echoing around the ground. Bizarrely one of Hemels batters retired at 8pm to take part in a football match (eh???).
So a great win for the Under 12s and they move up to second in the table.
