Hatfield Hyde III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 23 Jul 2016 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report On a sad day for the club with the passing away of club stalwart Andre Machon, The Intrepids hit the road, over to Hatfield Hyde who had a blank weekend for their 3s who play in Reg Div East. It was 30c and blazing sunshine, the pitch looked good so any sensible captain would have batted first however The Intrepids like a chase so we bowled first and after the first few overs it looked like we might be home before 5, with both Nat and Jess taking early wickets with the opposition barely playing a shot in anger. Charlie came on and took a wicket in his first over, a smart catch by the skipper at short midwicket and then Toby trapped their skipper in front. At the other end HH debutant Joshi was striking the ball powerfully and quickly went to a 50. We certainly gave him a few chances and Jess and Emma became increasingly vocal/embarrassed as Dad/Husband Steve had one of those days in the field, spilling 3. This prompted Derek to advise Steve to go over to Brazil for the Olympics as "he wouldn't catch anything". Suds kept it quiet at one end and removed 2 more, Will also grabbed 2 wickets but with Joshi bearing down on a century Mark finally got him caught by Emma and then bowled the last man first ball to give some relief from the heat.

Tea was: lovely fresh sandwiches, dips and veg, 4 different types of cakes including freshly baked scones, a beautiful fruit platter - in short magnificent.

Our openers Nat and James went off like a train. Nat in particular took a liking to the bowlers and one six bounced off the top of the dressing room roof and landed on Marks head who was scoring at square leg. Ouch. Nat was looking good for a 50 when he was trapped LBW but he had set up a comfortable run chase. Charlie hit a couple of good boundaries before chopping on, then the Potts ladies both fell quickly, Emma playing a bit of a hockey shot off a wide only to demolish her own stumps! At the other end James was batting serenely and running well between the wickets but he too went LBW. Steve joined Mark and these 2 added another 30 which took us to the brink of victory before Steve was caught behind. Suds was dropped second ball but with only 2 needed Mark spanked a four through the onside to bring up a comfortable 4 wicket win with 8 overs to spare.

Another good win for the Intrepids who were pleased to find on returning to the club that all 4 league teams had also won. A 5 out of 5 day which meant multiple beer jugs courtesy of the Treasurer!
