Match report Our first ever game at Aldenham, a new team in the league. Nice ground, circled by trees and with a very inviting pub at deep long off. Aldenham had applied to the league to go in a higher division but due to a baffling decision have been made to start in the lowest division possible which on todays showing they should win at a canter. Mark won the toss and with the sun shining and comfy seats in front of the pavilion he decided to have a bat. Dave & Andy started well but Andy had his middle stump removed and Nat followed soon after. Tim and Dave C settled the innings down for a while but all of Aldenhams bowlers were good and there were no freebies. Dave and then Miles were quickly out and we were in trouble. The skipper joined Tim with a mission to get through to drinks but after ignoring his own advice and hitting 3 successive square cuts for 4 he then fell to a poor shot to be followed by Tim LBW. It looked like we might be bowled out for 80 but OC stepped up to the plate and shepherded the tail through to 117, well done OC a super knock in the circumstances.

Tea was simply magnificent, nice fresh sandwiches, pies, curried chicken, fresh pineapple and strawberries and 2 big cakes - did we really have to field after eating all that?

Given that Aldenham had scored nearly 300 in their first 2 matches Mark decided to give the youngsters an opportunity, mainly to protect his own bowling average. All the lads performed creditably - Tom bowled 4 tidy overs, unlucky not to pick up a wicket, Miles spilling a tough chance diving to his right. Nat got into a good rhythm, and Tim snaffled a difficult catch off his bowling on the boundary. Enter Chrispin Jnr to bowl an excellent spell of offspin 8 overs straight through, beating all the batsmen consistently. Could have easily picked up 4 wickets but actually got 2, the first an absolute screamer of a catch from his Dad diving like a young salmon at first slip although most of the senior players thought he made a meal of it. Got a big clap from the spectators though. Eventually we ran out of steam and the last 2 overs went for 28 runs, Aldenham winning with 7 wickets and 17 overs to spare. We look forward to meeting them again in the return match at our ground later in the summer! Sure I have got something on that weekend.
