Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v St Albans IV on Sat 11 Jun 2016 at 1pm - 80 overs (42/38)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The first of the timed games this season. With Pete still on holiday, Mark won the toss and with 8 bowlers at his disposal decided to put the opposition in. Charlie was on fire extracting movement through the air and off the pitch, too good for the first 5 St Albans batters and we were quickly on top. In fact Charlie could have taken 3 wickets in one over if he hadn't spilled a difficult caught and bowled. Had we taken a couple of edges we could have bowled them out for less than 50 but their youngsters defended resolutely and lasted 35 overs. Phill Brown bowled a miserly spell which kept up the pressure and Tom Lewis took 2 wickets in his first game this season.
After tea we just needed to bat sensibly however we got off to a stuttering start, losing 3 wickets and the only thing keeping the score board ticking was an endless stream of wides, byes and no balls from the oppos bowlers. If Dan had not been dropped on 1 we would have been 30 for 4, but that reprieve fired Dan and Mike into action and they struck a series of boundaries off the spinners to finish the game in the 19th over, Dan finishing the game 4,6 with a flourish.
A much better performance after our poor showing at Parkfield and we are nicely positioned in 3rd after 6 games, not too far off the pace.
