Match report
The second 11 rolled into Luton Town on Saturday in the driving seat of Division 8A. After a rain interrupted warm up during which the skipper managed to loose the toss and be inserted, 9 of the team realised that Prunty and Hunter had yet to arrive. Fortunately appearing just before the openers set out to bat, their fines for tardiness will go some way towards replenishing the fund decimated by a night out in the Las Vegas of Hertfordshire (Hemel Hempstead) the previous weekend.
After the openers put on 29 after 10 overs, a struggle on a slow and variable wicket, a small flurry of wickets went down bringing together the returning and well tanned Wyatt and Lewarne G with the score at 44-3. Both steadying the Berko ship before Wyatt out caught on 27 brought the skipper forward for some lusty blows. Lewarne continuing through a number of partners for a vital and vigorous 72 that brought the Berko total at tea to 204.
During the interval, a light shower spiced up the wicket for the opening bowlers, well rested after their late arrival with Prunty straight into the wickets after an excellent catch from Lake. The score could have been 0-2 had Debonnaire held on to a difficult chance at point. Hunter continued at the other end picking up the wicket of Towns No3 bat late in his spell. The skipper turning to himself and the promoted Richardson, then made good work ripping through the middle order with Richardson deserving more that his one wicket. The captains highlight being to bowl the number 5 with a full bunger with the rest of the team in disbelief, not bad from the lower order cleaner.
With the rain clouds approaching in the distance, the spin twins Wyatt and Henderson then finished off with the final wickets to leave Luton all out on 98 and a more than useful 30 points to stretch the lead at the top to 22 points at the halfway stage.
Here's to the second half of the season being more Leicester than Arsenal!
