St Albans III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1pm - limited overs (50)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
After the thrilling end to last week’s game the season was off to a great start! Resulting in the team traveling to St Albans this week in high spirits.
With the warm up completed, the skipper returned to his troops with news of the toss… Berko to field first, with the new ball given to Prunty and the returning Roberts. After a game of paper, scissor, rock Prunty had to bowl uphill and into the wind which could have been a good thing as I’m unsure how many overs Roberts could have done(due to his current lack of fitness). We got off to a great start! Getting an early breakthrough in the 3r d over of the game, thanks to Prunty. A great opening spell from the boys saw the score of 40-3 off 13. The Skipper came into the action and got a wicket in his 2nd over and then quickly got another. At the other end was the international Henderson who was unlucky not to get in the wickets on this occasion. Wright was then brought into the attack coming close to getting his 1st wicket for the club with his 1st ball of the day but was unfortunately put down in the slips; later Wright did get that wicket he deserved. The opening two came back into the action to clean up the tail.
With tea not ready Debonnaire and Lewis went out to bat for 10 overs and got off to an unbelievable start. When tea was finally taken the score stood at 81-1 with Debonnaire 74 and Lewis 4. Debonnaire was striking the ball as clean as I’ve seen and Lewis at one point had a strike rate of 200 (shame it was off just the 1 ball). A couple of wickets fell in quick succession, Berko now stood at 105-3. In the end Smith and Lake (the finisher) saw us over the line, much to Smiths disappointment it was off a bye and not his bat.
A really good start to the season has seen the team win 2 from 2; more of the same next week please lads. xx
