Tring Park v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 13A on Thu 29 May 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Tring won by 51 runs
Match report
They say a week is a long time in politics but this game proved that a year is an even longer time in the life of a Colts Cricketer. Unfortunately the age gap between our boys (all Under 12 apart from our valiant captain Ed Sibley) and Tring (nearly all under 13s) proved just too great as we were trounced by 51 runs. The match got off to a terrific start as we were forced to stand in the rain for 45 minutes as a delayed adult afternoon match stumbled to its conclusion. Then as the rain continued to fall we went out to field against a strong Tring batting line up who proceeded to smash 89 in just 13 overs. Tring then declared fearing the floodlights might fail or Noah might appear. Theo Freedman kept wicket well and should have been rewarded with a first catch for the club from an outside edge that was heard in Hemel but not by the one person that counts. Otherwise our bowling and fielding was well below par and only Ed Butler-Caddle picked up a wicket.
Our batting was..... not great. Three ducks (very apt for the weather), a top score of 8 from Josh Roberts and a grand total of 38 off 16 overs perhaps not our finest hour. Max Jenkinson was most unfortunate to be run out from a deflected drive to the non-strikers end. Both Robert Spencer and Theo Freedman batted well in a losing cause and looked to attack whenever they could.
Thnaks to the parents who braved the weather to support the team, one day the sun will shine again.
