Berkhamsted Cricket Club 1st XI v Hitchin on Sat 16 Aug 2008 at 1:30
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BY 6 WICKETS
Match report
Hitchin won the toss and elected to bat on a flat Berkhamsted pitch. They got off to a solid start against new ball pairing Bray and Janaway. Cusden replaced Bray but couldn't find any rhythym and was replaced by skipper Herring who got Berko into the game with two LBW decisions.
With Janaway under the weather, Dent came into the attack and ran out the dangerous Lewis by deflecting a straight drive onto the stumps. Pugh then flicked one of his pads from Herring straight to Dent at short fine leg. The pressure of accurate bowling got to Hitchin and they continue to score slowly whilst losing wickets. Fair was bowled by Dent, playing a ridiculous shot. The Hammonds put on a small partnership but Kingstone smartly stumped O. Hammond off the bowling of Dent to keep Hitchin to a small total of 176.
Berkhamsted chased the total down smartly. Cusden powered a quick 25 and Stedman and Kingstone laid a fine platform together. Kingstone was out to a wonder catch but Ali Bray partnered Stedman who hit a fine straight six on his way to 81 not out. Janaway finished the chase off with a mighty six over midwicket and Berkhamsted had won which all but secured their place in Division One for another season.
