West Herts v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15A on Mon 06 Jul 2015 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
For the second year in a row we lost out at the quarter final stage. With 4 players on holiday and another playing a school match we went into the game with a mixture of u15s and u14s. Our innings was a little stop start with skipper Sam playing a fluent knock and in particular cutting the spinners on his way to an excellent half century. Christian played on just as he was looking dangerous and after that we rather frittered away wickets so the innings never quite gained the momentum it needed. At the end it was left to Will Gardener playing his first club match this season to stroke his way to a composed 32 not out. One day that boy will look flustered!
West Herts began their innings frantically, literally trying to run off every ball. If we had been a little more switched on we could have made at least 3 run outs but as it was their openers laid a solid platform for their more aggressive batters. After both openers fell, one to a great catch by Sam, the opposition no 3 and 4 played superbly, hitting anything over pitched or on the legside for boundaries and putting lots of pressure on our fielders on the large outfield. Our lads gave it everything and in particular Tom Clarke bowled an excellent economical spell but ultimately the pressure told and a few wides and misfields crept into our game. There was one half chance to catch their no 3 that went down but after that the result was never really in doubt, West Herts winning with 4 balls to spare and proceeding to Finals Day on sunday.
The game was played in an excellent spirit and our U14 players should feel very proud of the contribution they made to a close contest. Thanks to Drew for umpiring the game.
