Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Bushey IV on Sat 25 Jul 2015 at 1pm - 90 overs (47/43)

Match report
After Fridays deluge we were grateful to see the sun shining when we arrived at the ground. Peps won the toss and inserted the opposition but on a pitch that was receptive to seam and spin many of our bowlers chose not to use the pitch at all which resulted in a torrent of fours and sixes from the Bushey openers who to their credit put away the bad balls every time with some clean hitting.
Tim made the breakthrough with a superb catch on the boundary by James and then the introduction of spin through Mark & Josh slowed down the scoring rate. Despite a couple of dropped catches we managed to pick up some wickets with David pulling off a very good diving catch at point to remove the other opener. Josh looked set for a five-fer when Bushey surprisingly declared after 39 overs leaving us 51 overs to score 252 for victory.
Tea was very disappointing, what's going on?
Josh and Andy opened our innings and established a good platform with a 61 partnership in the first 14 overs helped by some wayward bowling (25 wides and 14 no balls overall). The game looked on when Puds and Mark came together and put on a rapid 53 for the 4th wicket but once those 2 were out it was always going to be difficult to chase down the last 100 runs. As the overs ticked by the opposition got increasingly fractious and various accusations were made and dissent shown to umpires which is very disappointing to see at this level. In fairness to the opposition some of their players apologized after the game but their attitude in the field certainly reinforced our determination not to lose the game and who better than our skipper to shut up shop in those circumstances, Peps playing with the deadest of dead bats to see out the final overs with only 1 wicket remaining.
The 4s are gaining in confidence but remain second from bottom due to the conceded games earlier in the season.
