Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hertford IV on Sat 23 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket
Match report
Hertford only had 10 men. They won toss and elected to bat.
We bowled and fielded well although with skip setting a field without a fine leg nor a third man the bowlers conceded more than they otherwise would have. Again we allowed a lower order partnership to add runs beyond where Hertford should have got to. Realistically we should have bowled them out for less than a 100 - that would have avoided the poor run chase from us in the second innings would it...?
Tea was good - taken at about 3.15.
Jack and George got off to a good start but both got out after having got in, as was the case with Luke. After that was a poor effort until Mark and Toby came to the rescue. What was memorable about our batting? Probably only the number of lives Toby had:
1. A dolly catch dropped by their short cover fielder.
2. Caught off of a no ball which they then ran on and Toby narrowly, with a less than graceful dive, avoided being running out.
3. Several LBW appeals of which one was very close.
However, we won ugly, actually, very ugly. We remain where we were before the game started - 5th and two points behind 4th. 3rd place Hatch End next week. A must win game.
