Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI v Northwood Town II on Sat 26 Jul 2014 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Beautiful warm summers day, pitch looking like a perfect batting track - so win the toss and bat... well not if you are Berko 2s as stand in skipper Luke took the brave decision to insert the opposition on what looked like a belter.
With a young team and 7 bowlers at his disposal Luke's plan was for short spells and Rob led the way, bowling the first 3 batters with a mixture of leg cutters and slower balls, impressive stuff well supported by a very quick spell from Ethan at the other end. Northwood's 3 and 5 briefly threatened to build a partnership with some well struck shots flying across a rapid outfield but once Joe and Jack had removed these 2 the innings crumbled quickly with the last 6 wickets going down in 8 overs after drinks. Our catching was smart (except for a couple of tough chances in the slips)and Romit and George polished off the tail with a minimum of fuss. We went in for an early tea with just a glance up the hill at the 4s who seemed to be doing a lot of ball chasing in the heat.
Our innings was short and sweet and Jamie and Jack survived a couple of early scares to set up a straightforward 9 wicket win. Jamie misjudged a two up the hill and was run out by an excellent turn and throw but Luke and Jack, playing with nice fluency for his 40, finished off the job without further alarms. There was a nice moment as the teams left the field with a team photo and round of applause from both teams for P Carter of Northwood Town who retired from cricket today.
Good win for the 2s and we are closing in on the promotion slots. Think the 4s are still fielding, turn on the floodlights...
