Berkhamsted Cricket Club 1st XI v Chorleywood II on Sat 16 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets

Match report If our win against Rickmansworth earlier in the season marked the green shoots of recovery then Saturday's match saw a blossom as we continued our march up the league.

The week leading up to the match saw O'Dair injure the skipper with a ball to the knee during a fielding drill. Some might say accidentally while the Machiavellian in me would suggests it was deliberate to gain an advantage in the now highly competitive warm up game. In complete contrast, the oppositions warm up consisted of laying on the benches and sleeping. Had they all been at the Oval the previous day?

The captain lost the toss but with confidence high he wasn't too disappointed to be in the field. Rob and Chad opened up and it wasn't long before the fireworks started. Chad had their captain bowled with a ball moving down the slope. Rob followed this up by yorking their other opener and then tempting the number four with a juicy half tracker which he duly lobbed to Gareth in the covers. The next three wickets were like watching continuous replays of the same event. Chad stemming in, timbers going flying. Doug then came on and picked up a couple which included the stumping of one his students. With Chorleywood now 9 down at this point is was time to phone in the cleaner. This time I got connected to the correct person and the oppo were out for 53.

No time for tea. Well to be fair we had only bowled 24 overs so it wasn't actually ready. The skipper gave the orders to not give the opposition a sniff. At 2 for 2 he was less than impressed. Nonetheless Doug and OD calmed the situation down and slowly started to accumulate runs. Doug's former pupil was brought on to bowl with some leg spin and Doug already feeling guilty in taking his wicket proceeded to patter back numerous full tosses. OD on the other hand had no such worries in despatching the young spinner into the field next door (twice) to level the scores. With a sense of flamboyance the game was won in true glamorous Berko style. A leg bye.

So 6 in a row. For those 10 pin bowlers out there that’s known as a Wild Turkey. All I know from my younger days is Wild Turkey gets you drunk and that exactly what some of the team did given we were finished by 4pm. Man of the match goes to Chad for a devastating spell of bowling.
