Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15A v Tring Park on Tue 30 Apr 2013 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 12 runs
Match report
The usual keenly fought contest between 2 teams who know each other well and enjoy a laugh and a joke inbetween the serious stuff. Berko batted first and racked up a decent total of 136 with strong performances from Jack Filer (28), skipper George Lewarne (50 retired) and Ted Stanford (25 not out). Thanks also to Harvey for christening Mark's new bat with a beautifully timed on drive down the ground - possibly the best shot that bat will see all summer. There was just time at the end of the innings for Oli Holdroyd to send a very quick ball from Max Murphy into orbit leaving Tring a stiff challenge in cold temperatures and worsening light.
Tring's innings got off to a flyer with Adam Partner showing why he is a County player and sending all our bowlers round the ground. Fortunately Adam had to retire at 50 which was a cue for our bowling to improve as we sensed victory. Oli Holdroyd and Jonny Butler-Caddle showed the merits of bowling straight and full and turned the game our way despite a strong innings of 33 from James Gurnett. With one or two exceptions our fielding wasnt the highest standard and pick ups and throws is an area to look at over the coming weeks.
A good start to the season and 30 well earned points in the bag.
