Frogmore II v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets
Match report
We travelled to Frogmore with a very young team and a player short having asked most of the population of Berkhamsted including the skippers postman. On a nice sunny afternoon Mark lost the toss and we were inserted. Jacob and Adam opened against exceptionally straight and accurate bowling and did well to survive until Adam lost his patience and holed out. This prompted a batting collapse with no-one getting into double figures except the skipper who tried but failed to farm the strike with the field set back. Our 9th wicket fell at 92 and that was that. Although we had a young team credit should go to their bowlers who bowled excellent line and length.
After tea we hoped for early wickets but after the first 10 overs it looked like it was going to be "Berkhamsted nil points" after Tom and Jacob had a competition to see who could bowl the most full tosses. Their openers duly tucked in and raced to 50 until Ben bowled another full toss only for the opener to hit it straight up in the air. This seemed to spur the whole team into action, Will Goodwyn bowled 4 accurate overs and then Tom and Jacob switched ends and both enjoyed immediate success. With so few runs to spare, the opposition were taking a Hezbollah approach to wides and no balls and this was to cost us dearly in the end. Mark removed his keepers pads to snare 3 quick wickets and leave them 91-8 and with 2 new batsman at the crease. Sadly we will never know how good these players were as the increasingly twitchy home umpire gave a dubious no-ball and an even dodgier wide to end the game on a rather sad and sour note. Just don't know what's happened to the spirit of cricket these days - is it that important to win in Div 14? We remain second from bottom of the league.
