Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Bushey III on Sat 15 Jun 2013 at 1pm
Match was Abandoned Lots of Rain
Match report
Its always nice to be asked to stand in as skipper for the 3rd team especially when the opposition have won 5 out of 5 however with a bowling attack resembling the famous Indian spin attack of the late 1970s we had nothing to fear. Mark won the toss and put them in - OC asked if he was opening the bowling but as the skipper wanted a spinner this was quickly ruled out. So the left arm seam and spin attack of Hamish and Ed kicked off proceedings and early wickets were claimed by both including a smart catch by Andre at silly mid off. OC eventually came on, his first ball rising about 6 feet off a length and then he burgled one down the legside, the batter playing on off the back of his glove - inventive these div 12 batsmen. Jacob looked miserable bowling in the drizzle with a damp ball but he too found the edge and James took a smart catch at slip - bizarrely every one of our 5 wickets was with the last ball of an over.
Just when it looked like a quick 30 points were there for the taking down came the by now traditional heavy summer rain and despite an early tea we went out to look at the wicket at 4pm but it resembled a world war 1 trench so we called it a day.
After the verbal onslaught from Southgate 2 weeks ago, the opposition were a very pleasant courteous bunch who said they would love to come back for a friendly at the end of the season, however having kept them waiting for a while they did want to disappear quickly at the end so I was only able to scribble down the bowling figures - thus adding 1 scalp to OC's unproven career total of 2.3 million wickets (approx.)
