Hertford IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 17 Aug 2013 at 1pm

Match report
Not too bad a journey. Facilities slightly juggled - most got dressed in the field next to their cars. Brown sight screens; no chairs or tables. Weather looked ok considering the reports.
Toss was lost and we were asked to bat. No panics here; everyone contributed around Luke's fautless and maiden 100. We declared and were keen to have a go. Quick average tea and we were back out.
Weather was becoming a factor; would the heavens open and if so when?
Hertford played to win; they went after their shots and we were trying to take wickets. Their run rate was competitive - we needed to take wickets. The game played out very competitively with both sides trying to win all the way through. Overall the team competed well however we look back and wonder what if: we had held our catches? What if we had bowled straighter and the many played and missed had been 'bowled'; what if we had gone defensive earlier and tryed to strangle the opposition thus avoiding the fact that they were always within reach if we didn't bowl them out. The rain came, although not a downpour and the light went. The bar of soap was difficult to handle and the batsman had the best chance of seeing it towards the end because it was only 22 yards away; our boundary fielders didn't have a clue.
A great game for all of us. a 'proper' game of cricket. 9 of the lads were 20 and under and they all contributed and showed a great attitude. Credit to Jack Hunter who was asked to bowl the last over having not bowled for some 40 overs. Under the circumstances; wet ball, two bats man who were well in and 8 needed to win it was a very mature effort. Restricted the batsman to singles. Well done Jack.
