Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hatch End on Sat 18 May 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
A tidy performance from the 2s on a dullish day at Kitcheners Fields with just the occasional shaft of sunshine. Luke standing in for Ian as skipper lost the toss and we were asked to have a bowl which suited us despite the late appearance of a couple of team members. Josh and Jack showed good discipline against solid openers and although the ball didnt beat the bat much the scoreboard was also fairly static. After a quick burst from Rob, Steve and Mark settled into bowl in tandem and the wickets began to fall steadily, a combination of good deliveries and some rash shots. Ed was making his debut this season and his left arm spin also extracted some life from the pitch which earned him 3 wickets. Josh returned to bowl the no 10 and Adam's smart throw saw the back of the dangerous Thanki who had hit a quick 22. Special mention to Nick for some outstanding boundary fielding which helped keep Hatch End below 150.
What can one say about the teas at Berko - they just get better although there was a quick run on the toffee yoghurts and with Jon Fearn and Dave Chrispin hovering in the bar the cheese board was in severe danger. Thankfully our 2 openers have young guys metabolism and Gareth and Nick took advantage of some ludicrously agressive field settings to get us off to a flyer which duly prompted a splendid range of saxon english from the oppo. Nick went for one too many biffs and was caught which brought in Luke who progressed serenely to a match winning half century. Gareth missed out on a 50 when looking well set and Puds played some nice drives before falling with just a few runs to win. In general we rode our luck a bit and seemed to manage to miscue shots perfectly into gaps between fielders but in the end we ran out comfortable winners with about 15 overs to spare. 3 wins out of 3 so far, lets keep it going.
