Leverstock Green III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 04 May 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
We left a sunny and placid Berkhamsted. 5 minutes away from a ground just 25 minutes from Berkhamsted we drove through lakes of water with the windscreen wipers on full. Strange...
We started an hour late; lost 16 overs but managed to win the toss and predictably decided to bowl.
Gareth and Harvey got off to a very steady start. Tight, pitched up, nothing loose. The pressure built and the wickets came. Gareth's opening spell included a 3 wicket over and really placed Berkhamsted in a strong position. Harvey supported very well.
Inevitably, due to their ages, Harvey and Gareth had to come off. In stepped the skipper and Dighty. Skip managed a couple of wickets and Dighty bowled a very tidy 5.5 overs for 3 wickets, conceding a measly 4 runs. Excellent effort in the field. Only one dropped sharp slip catch.
Good tea eaten and the Berko innings commenced. Luke was out to a sharp lifting ball - a bit tasty for an opening over. Chasing 48 required experience, maturity, a touch of class mixed with defiance - Mr Lewarne stepped up and produced. Not only with runs but also a pair of pants for young Mikey, who otherwise would have been in his undies. Mikey, appropriately clad, batted sensibly for his 20 and made sure that we wouldn't see Berko's usual snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Well done all. A very good team effort and positive start to the season.
