Berkhamsted Cricket Club U14B v Harpenden on Thu 14 Jun 2012 at 6pm
Match was Abandoned Rain stopped play
Match report
14th June 2012.
Well, it wasn’t raining when we started but I think we had maybe bowled one over before it began and for the next hour or so, it got steadily heavier until we called a halt. Skipper of the night Amish tossed up and we decided to field first. I was advised after the game that one of the opening bats had represented the area so we were up against a good team and their play confirmed that. Ben opened the bowling with Josh and on a skiddy damp pitch they made it very difficult and after 9 overs there was only 38 on the board. Bickers and I were of the same opinion, keep them to under a hundred and we have a good chance.
Sadly the Harpenden batsmen took a shine to the skippers off breaks and on a small outfield, the ball was rarely in Berkhamsted for about 6 overs. When it comes to the bowling figures look away now.
Anyway, 143 is a good score and the boys had done the maths and calculated that about 7 an over was the run rate. Mentions must be made to Freddies knee that stopped a very good drive and nearly stopped Freddie as well and also Chris L who took a very good catch that went up a very long way. We do have photographic evidence that he had his eyes closed when it came down. There are a few pictures going onto the website.
Bickers was a man inspired and raced to 15 off just over three overs. At that point the umpires conferred and with only three members of the Harpenden team having spikes and the ball resembling a bar of soap, the umpires retreated to cover.
It could have been a very good game as the bowling was ok, nothing better and with a small outfield, seven an over was a prospect. Anyway the rain sealed our fate again.
