Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Stevenage VI on Sat 09 Jun 2012 at 1pm

Match report
After last weeks drama it was probably expecting too much for another exciting game and following a week of rain it was a relief to be out there despite the overcast chilly conditions. Mark lost the toss and Stevenage decided to bowl, an unsurprising move given the strength of their bowling attack. It was good to see Atkins Senior back opening the batting and he was watchful on a tricky pitch against very accurate bowling. Concentration has proved a problem for us this season and so it proved again with patience running thin which started a procession of batters bowled trying to force the pace. Fortunately, Peps has Olympian powers of concentration and he was holding up one end as wickets tumbled at the other. Rob came in and hit his first ball for six - the usual Prunty "calling card" but he soon fell, confused by Peps telling him to defend, a word not in his vocab. The innings gained some impetus when Jack Furlong entered the fray and he was looking good when a calling mix up left him stranded at the wrong end. After that we stumbled our way to 143 all out which was a few batting points but didnt seem enough to win the game.
There can rarely have been a better opening spell of bowling in Div 14 than that provided by Jack Hunter and Rajib. Quite literally in 20 overs they did not bowl a bad ball, repeatedly beating the outside edge and the oppo were only going at a run an over for the loss of 2 wickets. However, our optomism was dashed by Mr Kantipoodi who after bowling superbly proceeded to stroke his way to a comfortable 50. If Stevenage have 55 players better than him they must be a very strong club. Jack Furlong plugged away at one end and picked up 3 well deserved wickets but it was not a good day for the Lewarnes after last weeks heroics and father & son remained wicketless. Following their slow start Stevenage never really looked interested in going for it and the game petered out into a pretty boring draw. 2 very positive points; James excellent keeping and Jack's opening spell, the best he has bowled for the club.
We continue our inexorable rise up the table!
