Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Botany Bay IV on Sat 26 May 2012 at 1pm

Match report
For the second match running the 4s clung onto a draw against impressive opposition. On a beautiful sunny afternoon with the ground looking at its most perfect skipper Mark inserted the opposition in the hope of bowling them out and knocking off the runs. Best laid plans etc. Botany Bay openers survived opening blast from Josh and both looked set for 50s until Jack Furlong snared them both. Peps absented himself from 1st slip to get his steroids and Adam jumped into his place to bag an easy catch off Jamie. Jacob chased down a run out and Rob bowled a good spell to peg back the run rate. Just when it looked like we could restrict them to sub 150 their no 4 played a terrific innings, surviving one dropped catch to hit a quick 50 and we were staring at a big target to chase.
As with our first game we lost early wickets and were soon fighting a rearguard battle. Peps came in to steady the ship and was soon hustling between the wickets for 2s and remarkably, a 3. Josh looked like he could win the game for us but fell when well set and by the time Mark strode to the crease Peps announced he had "a groin strain, hayfever and was knackered". Nevertheless, he was also enjoying himself and when Jamie came in as last man he and Peps saw us through for an honourable draw. With 9 colts in the team, this match was a great learning experience and hopefully we can improve our league position in the next few weeks. Thanks to Guy for umpiring.
