Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI v Northwood Town II on Sat 01 Sep 2012 at 12.30pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets with 4 overs to spare
Match report
Berkhamsted II’s vs Northwood Town 11’s 1st September 2012
An early start. The opposition had been winning chasing totals and lying 4th were keen to win this fixture. Toss won and Charlie put them in to their chagrin. Excellent first ball from Josh pitching middle taking off bail. Josh took his second with the score on 11 in his second over with a pleasant catch by Tim standing in front of the batsman and slightly to leg. They carried on at about 3 an over, the main highlight being Puds taking 3 slip catches of increasing levels of difficulty. We must get some Muslims to set-up their BBQ next to his shed every match. Pud’s hat trick was completed with a very sharp chance of his old mucker Colin Schaw. We had them 152 for 8 down with ten overs to go when Goughie dropped their no 10 at what proved to be too close gully for his visual acuity and reflex dexterity. What followed was a rather frustrating last half hour with their no 7 getting to 50, balls seemingly landing close but not to hand, a non-grounded bat run-out not given and the Skipper starting to sap. What with all that happening, the overs being wrong on scoreboard thwarting his plans to bowl Phil more and the youth texting during his sum-up at tea his toys were well and truly thrown from pram. This was missed by the author as he was actually baby minding. Further angst for the Skipper.
An excellent tea as always. The oppo seemed quite smug they had got to 202 and thought they had got out of jail. Gareth opened well departing for 20 leaving Boyc’s Buckley on 1. Luke was given out by Guy allegedly caught off the forearm/ wrist area, no replays and no big bruise. A tidy 23. Although looking unlikely we were going to lose the game at 51-2 after 17 overs a win was looking less on the cards. That was of course until Mr Schaw hit his first scoring shot for 6. After 28 overs Tim had accelerated up to 8. Col when he got the strike started getting warmed up. An absolute joy to watch making it all look somewhat effortless. A boundary by Tim was richly applauded and he supported Col well as Dickie struggled to keep up with the Telegraph. Tim hit some lovely shots to their extra cover and got to 31 before being bowled in the 39th with the score on 167. Enter Puds to “nurse” Colin to his ton. We need further clarification on this but when it happened Puds ran down the pitch for a big hug. Were there highs fives, fist pumps and a kiss? Good job Dan missed it as his nose would have been well and truly put out of joint having made various attempts to loosen Pud’s reserve.
The oppo were down and out by now and it didn’t take many more boundaries and a good attempt to clear the clubhouse sightscreen before the game was won. Obviously man of the match was Colin Schaw. Best bowling on our side the first spell by Josh but quite modestly Tim made a point of running after their opening bowler to congratulate him on bowling the best ball of the season to Tim who had evidently survived it! Thanks to Guy for umpiring and Dickie for scoring.
