Dunstable v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A on Mon 13 Jun 2011 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 34 runs
Match report
A great result for the U11s who again had to rely on the middle order to post a reasonable total on a glorious evening in Dunstable. With BCC batting first it was crucial we built a good score as DTCC had big hitters only too willing to strike the boundaries at will. A tentative start at 3 an over soon became a concern as once again the top order all failed to play the patient innings so ably demonstrated by the middle order. Two crazy run outs saw both Jake and Charlie back on the bench after Christian had lofted an easy catch to mid-off in just the 4th over. However Tom and Tomas both batted extremely well and never looked in trouble, with Tom reaching 26 no and Tomas going for a sharp 18 (which included 4 boundaries!). Despite the early slow run rate, DTCC gifted some 58 extras which meant our bowlers had something to defend and defend it they did!
Jake produced probably his best 4 overs of the season and was unlucky not to pick up wickets but nevertheless he was unplayable going for just 3 runs off his 4 overs. Tomas at the other end was also impressive (although I will formally request in writing that the run up is reduced). A good spell of 4-1-9-2 meant DTCC were soon behind the run rate required. Further good line and length from Ben, Christian and Toby and a bit of spin from Josh prevented DTCC making much progress and with wides/no balls down to just 6 in the whole match BCC were soon in control. Some sharp fielding and a bit more enthusiasm in the field than of late saw BCC home with plenty to spare. Now off to practice our running between the wickets.....
