Flamstead v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15B on Mon 20 Jun 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Yuk! T’was a dark and stormy night. Predictably for mid June, it was ghastly weather and had Helly Hansen done cricket kit we would all have been in much better shape. As the observant reader may notice it was raining.
However unlike the softies in the A team who called their game off we battled through and managed to secure an excellent win.
Oliver F was skipper and he tossed up and suggested that Flamsted bat first. Jamie opened up and with Ben VV bowled very tightly and they restricted Flamsted to 15 of the first 5 overs. There was some really good ground fielding with Adam and Will G both showing their excellent throwing arms in the course of the evening. After the openers, Matt B, Amish and Will also bowled well and with only 67 on the board Flamsted never had enough despite monsoon conditions. We still need to bowl straighter and if we are genuinely to succeed at a higher level, we will need to cut out the 21 extras that made the score vaguely respectable.
After the rains began to subside, we went to bat. Bickers and Chris L opened up and batted superbly although Chris was dropped twice en route to a tidy 18. When Bickers was bowled we had little idea of how much a collapse would ensue. Jamie played a dreadful shot and departed first ball. They had crossed so Chris was next up and he was caught. End of the over and Adam is now on strike. Adam missed the next one and departed first ball. Matt missed the next one and departed first ball. 4 balls and 4 wickets! Will G and Oli steadied the ship and we got a point where we needed 9 off 12 balls. Will got out caught but Ben and Oli batted very sensibly and saw us home.
Thanks to Flamsted for persevering as it was a filthy night and many teams would have given up but it sees us close to the top of the table with two more games to go.
P7, W4 L2 A1.
