Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 13A v Tring Park on Thu 23 Jun 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 27 runs
Match report
Tring handed out a cricketing lesson in a game both teams really needed to win if they were to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Taking advantage of some wayward bowling and poor fielding, the away team amassed an impressive total of 136 for 3 off 20 overs, with the top order batsmen all reaching double figures. McCormack retired on 30no with good support from Wager-Leigh (22) and Furhan (23no) who timed the ball superbly. Credit goes to the batsmen but, in truth, Berkhamsted made it too easy for them, and never got close to the performance level expected in a big match.
Having given away 33 extras (yes, thirty three), the home team faced a run rate of just under 7 an over if they were to win. To their credit, some of the boys made a decent fight of it, with Lewarne (27), Parry (22) and Filer (28) putting up some strong resistance. But with Tring really on their game in the field, and captain McCormack (15-5) bowling superbly, the game slowly slipped out of our reach.
The winning margin was 27 runs, but on the night the difference between the sides was bigger. Tring were sharper in the field, played the right shots at the right time and were better organised all-round. They go on to play Langleybury next week in a game that should decide the group winners.
