Tring Park v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 13A on Wed 11 May 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 13 runs
Match report
Following a good win in the opening game against Langleybury, the U13As were beaten at Tring on Wednesday after a sloppy performance with bat and ball. With a couple of regulars absent and captain George Lewarne missing for the first hour of the match with school commitments, this was never going to be an easy fixture, but the simple fact was we bowled too many wides and no balls and batted poorly - with wickets given away cheaply at crucial times. Tring, on the other hand, looked sharp, bowled straight and fielded very well - thoroughly deserving their victory by 13 runs.
There were some positives, though. Steed, Lewis and Lewarne picked up two wickets apiece after some good spells of bowling, and we saw fantastic catches from Lewarne and Jack Filer behind the stumps. Stand-in skipper Ted Stanford looked in good form against Tring's pace attack but was run out on 22 after a mix up, and Jonathan Butler Caddle batted well to finish 9 not out. But the highlight of the innings was a swashbuckling 31 not out from James Parry who continued his excellent run of form with the bat.
Overall, though, given the talent in the squad, this was a disappointing result. We gave away too many runs by not defending the boundary at the right time and conceding too many extras. Tring’s total of 115 was very gettable, but too many of our top order batsmen played poor shots, often trying to hit out when a more sensible approach was needed.
The boys are in action next week against Chorleywood when they’ll hope to get their season back on track!
