Knebworth Park VI v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 20 Aug 2011 at 1.00pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report A very eventful afternoon saw the Intrepids return to the fray with their 4th win of the season. We travelled with perhaps our youngest side so far to play Knebworth at Aston CC where the first 10 minutes were spent trying to remove a dead bird which had attracted most of the wasp population of Hertfordshire.

Mark won the toss and decided to have a bowl - so Jack, fresh off the plane from Oz roared down the hill with real pace and Jacob settled into a good length and promptly removed both openers. However, blue skies above had given way to clouds and drizzle and eventually we withdrew to the pavilion. We came back on for a few overs but it rained again so an early tea was taken. Interesting sandwiches were consumed - something like Straw Mayonaisse and Curried Vole, as none of us recognised the contents. Suitably revived we came back out in persistent drizzle and got on with the game - James had moved from Wasp Central at first slip to bowl a good spell and both he and Tom Pedrick had been denied 2 nailed-on LBWs so this helped batters 3 and 4 to prosper including a let off for a certain run out. With the scoreboard ticking along we needed a breakthrough so up stepped Jamie who bowling superbly with a wet ball took 2 wickets (both stumped) and could have had more had the keeper used his gloves more than his groin for catching the ball. This opened up the tail and so it brought further wickets for Tom Mills (on debut), Dan (2) and Jack who also took his 16th catch of the season after moving smartly from 2nd wasp to fly slip.

With the sun coming out we thought 156 was a gettable total and so it proved. Guy went quickly, generously giving first slip catching practice but this brought together Dan and Andy, the Little & Large show who together took the game away from Knebworth with a string of great shots. Andy was not best pleased to be triggered when on 34, especially as the oppo barely appealed. This only proved to be a minor hiccup as Dan and Tom simply stepped up the pace and hit even more boundaries. Dan seemed to gain in confidence after reaching his maiden senior 50 and in all he struck 12 fours in a chanceless innings only falling in the final over. Tom too, for the 2nd week in a row, struck the ball with good power and scored very quickly.

An excellent victory where everyone made a contribution and some super performances from the colts on a wet afternoon.
