Northwood Town III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 5th XI on Sat 25 Jun 2011 at 1.00pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 29 runs
Match report
The Intrepids went over to table toppers Northwood Town on a damp morning. The Intrepids captain won the toss and elected to bat first on the all weather wicket. Captain Atkins lead out the batting with his young companion Williams and decided to set about the bowling early. The field was put back after Atkins sent the ball over the bowlers head for 6. By the time Atkins fell for 47 the score had mounted to 73...Williams kept up the attack until he too holed out in the deep. The incoming batamen all got starts and kept the score board ticking over. We set them what looked like a vulnerable target of 149 as the sun came out and dried up the outfield. The drying conditions proved a blessing for the Intrepids bowlers as the pace cranked up. Atkins junior bowling fast removed the Town opener in the first over as he was just to slow to react. Lewarne bowled beautiful line and length from the other end and finished with 6 overs 1 for 7 with 4 maidens. Town just couldn't get the bowling away. Furlong and Sibley took up the first change challenge and maintained the pressure. Wickets fell steadily and it was Left to Atkins Junior to clean up the tail with some hostile pace bowling. Roll on the intrepids...On a personal note I would like to say how very proud I was of the all the young colts. Each and every one of them fielded brilliantly with accuracy and enthusiasm which had a significant bearing on the outcome on the match.
