Parkfield & Headstone III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 13 Aug 2011 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
With probably the youngest ever Berko adult side, including 6 13/14 year olds, Our make shift 4th II put in a brave display at Parkfield and Headstone, the omens were not good, with Guy and Andy getting lost down a bridleway near the ground, having to change on the outfield and promptly losing the toss on a damp windy pitch. With the ball swinging like a banana, we lost a wicket in the first over, then excellent attacking by George and Charlie put on 35, before George missed one that swung into his stumps. Guy and Charlie then put the score past 60 until Guy gloved one that spat up of the pitch and was caught behind, soon charlie was out LBW to one that kept very low, then there was somewhat of mid order collapse including one very needless run out, threatening to leave the somewhat becalmed Andy marooned. Then out came Mr Ledger who played straight and hit some excellent drives as Andy finally started to take the attack to the opposition, taking us past 2 batting points.
2 caught and bowled's at the end including Andy on 37 (and thus ruining his 50 average this season) left us all out on 129, but on that pitch, we had a chance
After tea, and finding that all the onion rings had been nabbed by the colts, we sat about our task well, with Charlie and in particular Harry bowling full and straight and prooving hard to get to way, Harry soon had the opener bowled with a beautiful yorker demolishing off stump, then the wht prooved to be the decisive moment, when harry enticed the opo's skipper into nicking one to Jack, every one of us jumped up to celebrate only for the umpire to somehow have turned blind and deaf, and from this let off, the skipper anchored the innings, inroads were made with Martin getting the other opener caught at gully, and then James getting one caught at point, but the skipper and the number 5 smacking good and bad balls for several 4's took the game out of reach.
May I say congratulations to all those colts who played there first adult game today, and how well they contributed on the pitch, and despite the 7 wicket defeat, the game was a lot closer then the score suggests
Well done all!
