Knebworth Park CC v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12B on Tue 13 Jul 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets
Match report
The U12As went out at the quarter final stage last night after being comfortably beaten by a talented Knebworth Park team.
Hopes were high that we could make finals day for a third consecutive season, but having won the toss, our batting let us down, and we struggled to set a total big enough to challenge the home team.
On a pitch that was hard to read and faced with some accurate Knebworth bowling, our batsmen struggled to get the ball off the square and despite several batsmen getting starts, wickets fell at regular intervals. George Lewarne (21 not out) was the one player to get into double figures, despite playing with a back injury, and we finished the 20 overs on 67-8.
Had we scored another 20 runs the contest might have been interesting, but despite some great fielding and plenty of spirit from the players, Knebworth batted sensibly and punished any loose bowling to get home comfortably for the loss of just one wicket with 4 overs to spare.
The last two matches have shown that we've still got some way to go if we're going to challenge for honours next year. On our day - like at Radlett last month - we're unbeatable. What we need now is consistency and the aspiration to perform as well in the big games as some of the players we've come up against recently. We're not far off, and they remain a great squad to work with, so here's to a successful 2011!
