Hatfield Hyde III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 13:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 49 runs
Match report
A fifth consecutive win for the 4ths cemented our position of 2nd in the league. The day didnt start well with one player not showing and Peter losing the toss so we were inserted to bat on a very poor wicket where scoring runs was not easy. Both Peter and Andre just couldnt get their timing right and boundaries were few and far between so that the 50 partnership didnt arrive until the 19th over. Our skipper was then stumped and Peter Drury came in for his first knock for many weeks and made a nice 14 before holing out to deep backward square. Peps then played the innings of the day, an effortless 45 not out containing 8 boundaries. Luckily the opposition also liked bowling wides so after Andre had completed a patient half century our skipper had seen enough and declared on 45 overs setting them 177 to win at just under 4 an over.
In recent weeks we have pinned teams down before taking wickets but this week with only 10 in the field and 2 others struggling with injuries we found it hard to contain the runs. Hatfield were aggressive from the start and their no 3, Pamula was timing the ball well and sending it to all corners. After 10 overs they were 51-2, our fielding was getting ragged and our skipper was beginning to frown and curse. Fortunately, our U16 colts came to the rescue, Sam Harlow taking 3 wickets in a great spell followed by an even better spell from Romit Patel who exploited some extravagant turn from the crumbling wicket to take 4-26. With OC chipping in with the vital wicket of Pamula for 69 we could even afford to drop a couple of straightforward catches before Mark Lewarne wrapped up proceedings by bowling the last man. Another good win.
