Match report Berkhamsted lights shine brightest in dark draw

A frustratingly delayed start of 14.00pm with 16 overs lost and the visiting side's hygiene issues were quickly under heavy fire in the dressing room. The skipper still unable to win a Luton Town toss. Driving misty rain with chilling early May winds blowing welcomed the Berkhamsted openers to the crease. A steady start of 41 for no wicket from Toughers & Johnny James was helped along by the Luton Town keeper sporting some well oiled gloves. Sherjan was promptly invited to the crease with Tougher being 'adjudged' caught behind from a shivering Dickie and was quick to punish anything loose from the home side attack. Sherjan was then however sent packing, edging arguably the best ball of the match to the keeper who's celebrations were more for one that didn't spill. Langley out from the toasty warmth. The grisly weather found Langley in positive mood clipping and timing his way to a well put together 37 before sadly chipping one to deep square leg and leaving Berko teatering on the verge of posting a competitive total. Scott kept the run rate graph moving in the right direction but was removed for 16. Dent enjoyed further impressive form swiping and smearing to various parts and confidently led the visitors to a commanding total, unfortunately falling 2 runs short of a deserved half century. A plucky Toughers declaration immediately following, Berkhamsted 200 for 8.

Luton Town II's 201 to win from 42 overs, Berkhamsted weapons primed with D James, bar towels and enough Under Armour for a Himalayan jaunt. Barnett opened proceedings and upon finding rhythm, made life particularly difficult for the home side. Dazzler, as ever, mixed good pace and consistency from the opposite end, seemingly finding either an outside edge or a mistimed stroke every other ball. Despite a decent run rate, the home side were unable to find sturdy partnerships, with wickets falling in pockets, on a tricky, lively wicket. With the match out of reach for the home team and Berkhamsted only needing 3 wickets for victory, failing light forced the skipper onto bowl. After confidently marking his run, a new 'nimble' Toughers promptly skidded over in delivery stride and found the dirt before being able to release the cherry. Several balls, a few forced smirks and several more bounces later, a stern looking skipper relinquished bowling duties to Dazzler and Antonelli who closed the door on an 20.15pm finish draw. With the majority of the best cricket being played by the truckers, Berkhamsted took 15 points and continue confidently towards Northwood II's at home next week.
