Match report Berkhamsted II's open the 2010 league account with a well grafted victory

Facing a West Herts eleven with around 5 regular first team players, Berkhamsted took to the crease first. Toughers & Johnny James moved the score to 17 before the Berkhamsted skipper was caught behind on what was a juicy opening spell from the West Herts openers, aided by an early season green deck. Enter Sherjan who wasted no time taking advantage of some friendly short deliveries. Berkhamsted moved briskly onto 91 with Johnny James contributing some excellent strokeplay and looked set for a big one until an 'interesting' umpiring decision ceased proceedings. A brute from the West Herts off spinner then had Sherjan tickling to the keeper handing momentum back to the visitors. Shuffler was undone by one that held it's line and shortly after Scotty had right to feel aggrieved at another 'interesting' umpiring event, this time leg before. Enter Dent. Seaming, bouncing, turning deck after a rain delay? No problem. Premier League bowling? No problem. Denty built with singles before unleashing the fury on the West Herts late order attack, which included two well timed reverse sweeps to the boundary and gave the home side a needed boost into tea, taking them to a now respectable 176.

West Herts to bat, 177 for victory. Seb started us off with fire and blasted out the no.1 first ball of the innings, thanks to an ambitious mistimed hook. West Herts's no.2 & 3 then steadied the ship and looked to be cruising before the consistently accurate James found the edge of Kendal to start the rot. With Barnett then removing the set no.3 Farrell with a fizzling leggie, the visiting side began to struggle, James quickly then removing Hodges on 31. Thanks to some sharp catching from Johhny James and D Sherjan, in what could be described as 'floodlight needed' conditions, the hosts squeezed West Herts and delivered the final blow on 114. Another excellent spell of bowling from Dazzler, finishing with 5-46.
