Match report
U12s stroll to excellent victory
The team arrived on a cloudy, windy day at York House School. Jamie Slater acting as skipper lost the toss and we were inserted.
James W and Harry H opened. The boys knew that in a twenty over match, you need to bat all the overs. A solid start from the openers settled the nerves, with Harry first to go after a sensible knock which blunted the openers’ attack. Adam and James continue the excellent start with some very good running and backing up – many a single stolen. Mr Buckley, their coach would have been proud. Adam eventually went, backing up a little too far, but not without making a creditable 14. Will B then came in for a breezy 5 seeking to accelerate for the team cause, with James W finally going to an excellent catch in the covers from Ross from Chorleywood. With 6 wickets to play with and 5 overs left, Chris L and JP were able to cut loose, with JP especially making the tiring Chorleywood bowlers suffer. Chris and JP ending up with 17no and 24 no respectively, the team made a round 100 for 4 – an excellently timed innings from all the batters.
However, the best was yet to come. Top fielding, exemplary bowling, with all the team encouraging each other along from BCC, Chorleywood were bowled out for 48. Ben and James opened – Ben bowling very tight with good pace was unlucky only to take one wicket from an excellent spell. Jamie bowled with accuracy and bounce, collected 3 wickets (with 2 in 2), with Will G and JP both snaffling 2 from their 2 overs, showing such a line and length to make the coach’s heart sing. Super bowling also from Chris, Beth and Peter made Chorleywood’s task increasingly difficult. With an excellent run out, Harry’s terrific stumping and Adam’s first class catch rounded off an all round display for the team to be proud of.
