St Albans v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12B on Thu 24 Jun 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 14 runs
Match report
A much changed Berkhamsted team came away a hard fought win against St Albans, but it took another good bowling performance to see off a spirited home team who had some quality players. On an unpredictable wicket that was impossible to judge, we struggled early on to come to terms with some good bowling from the St Albans openers and lost early wickets. At 30 for 3 after 7 overs we were in some trouble, but good knocks from James Parry (22), Harvey Lewis (21) and Oli Holdroyd (13) got the run rate moving and vital runs from Harry Ormerod (7) and Chris Lovett (5) meant we finished on a respectable 90-8. Eddie Duncombe fended off some fierce bowling in the final over and showed real spirit in continuing after being hit in the ribs by a ball that climbed viciously off a length.
With a relatively small total to defend, Berko got off to a great start with Harry Ormerod taking two wickets in his first over. St Albans rallied, and with the help of some below-par fielding, got themselves into a position to win the game. But good bowling from Lewarne, Holdroyd and Anna Nicholls, a great catch from Ed Tidey and a stumping by William Bickerdike swung the game back in our favour. Ed Holderness and Eddie Duncombe - two U11s brought in for the match - bowled a good line and length to leave St Albans needing 22 to win off the final over. It proved too big an ask and Berkhamsted ended up winning by 14 runs. A gutsy performance - well done to all.
