Potten End v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 Pairs on Wed 19 May 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Potten End won by 20 runs
Match report
The boys put on a battling performance tonight but just missed out to a committed Potten End team. The sides were evenly matched throughout but unfortunately we just lost those few more wickets. Looking on the bright side, if you adjust the scores for the wickets lost we would have actually just pipped them! It was a great improvement on the 14 wickets down in our previous match - the boys ran better between the wickets, looked for the gaps in the field as I asked them to and generally batted with more confidence.
Still a bit of work to do though as this seems to be the weak spot in their play.
There were plenty of postives in the field - all the boys bowled very tidily with a good line and length. The fielding has come on leaps and bounds, the boys are more alert to the play and are displaying good technique. Best bowling from Seb who picked up 2 wickets (one a c&b), with the other wickets off Luke and Alex, neatly held catches as well from Michael and Dan (I think!). Only 20 extras given away which is a great improvement.
On the batting side we pushed the score on nicely, Jack and Michael in the first pairing playing with a lot of intelligence, picking up 1s and 2s with some great placements. Seb and Zac lost a few wickets but still ended up with a net 12. Next up, Alex and Luke unfortunately had the pick of the Potten End attack and found it quite tough but kept battling on. In the last pair, Ben and Dan hit some great shots and never gave up hope. 4s from Jack, Zac, Dan (2) and Ben (with the last ball of the innings!).
Played in a great spirit and greatly enjoyed by everyone.
