Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 Pairs v Tring Park on Tue 27 Apr 2010 at
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Tring won by 91 runs
Match report
Unfortunately the first match of the new season happened to be against a very talented and capable Tring B squad. Result Tring 271 for 3, Berkhamsted 180 for 14.
We started brightly enough, with a wicket off Dominic's bowling in the first over. We continued to bowl pretty well over the whole innings, delivering a good line and length, but we came unstuck a little bit with some big hitters in the middle order. They punished the straight balls that against lesser batsman would have caused problems, so plenty to be positive about. Congratulations to James for getting the only maiden over, closely followed by Edward (with a wicket for 1 run) and Seb (with 0 for 1 run). The other wicket was taken by Jack on the last ball!
On the batting side, I asked the boys to be decisive in their running and to call clearly for their runs. That bit they did well but unfortunately they took on runs which always looked a bit risky, and coupled with some excellent fielding and throwing from Tring it meant we lost quite a few cheap wickets. On the plus side, there were quite a few good technical batting performances; Dominic and Edward both did well in the first pair.
Both sides were about even in extras given away so the deciding factors were the cheap wickets we gave away and the few fours that Tring managed to get in their middle order. We fielded very well given that this was the first match with a hard ball; Zac was unlucky with a catch that didn't quite stick and there were a couple of occasions when fiercely struck balls got though the field (although I can quite understand why!).
