Watford Town v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 10 Blue on Tue 08 Jun 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 24 runs
Match report
Another win for BCC U10As but boy did we make it hard work against a side who to be fair have improved no end particularly with their bowling and in the field.
BCC lost the toss and were put into bat and with Watford opting to field quite deep this meant there were runs to be made through singles if not boundaries. The opening pair of Nittur and Clarke got BCC off to a flying start putting on 28 without loss with most coming off the bat at last! However Watford pegged BCC back with some tight bowling and a cheap wicket as our second pair (Hadden and Conroy) could only put on a solitary run in their 4 overs with singles going begging. Alderson and Nel then picked up the pace but some poor calling led to a run-out and despite 3 further boundaries, BCC were only at 243 with 4 overs to go. Munday and Ormerod steadied the ship with Ormerod playing some delightful shots, hitting a couple of boundaries and taking some nice singles along the way. Not a bad score and encouraging that there were more runs scored than extras given but too many batsmen were still glued to their creases when runs were out there.
Watford’s opening pair took full advantage of some untidy bowling and amassed 14 (all of which were extras!) and the blushes were only saved by a run-out by Alderson to grab the first wicket. The next 4 overs didn’t get a whole lot better and BCC gave away a further 12 extras which was the 2nd pairs total partnership. Finally the bowling returned to something like normality with some better line and length and this was duly rewarded - Clarke and Alderson bowling a couple of maidens and at last some wickets courtesy of Nittur, Hadden and Alderson, the last being a fine catch at square leg by Nittur.
A good result but as we now prepare to face more difficult opposition we will need to find our line and length with the ball earlier and cut down on all those needless extras. Some encouraging signs with the bat though with some of the boys really starting to concentrate – let’s keep the calling loud and clear and remember it’s best to take 4 little singles in an over than swipe and miss 6 balls going for glory
