Chorleywood v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 10 Blue on Sun 02 May 2010 at 10am
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 71 runs
Match report
Bizarrely the rain held off over York House School for the U10As game against Chorleywood on Sunday 9th of May.
BCC loss the toss and were put into bat on a damp wicket and despite the ball skidding through low from time to time, the opening pair of Clarke and O’Gorman put on 20 without loss. However after a bright first over for the second pair of Alderson and Ormerod, a suicidal run led to the first wicket to fall through some good fielding but poor calling. In the same over Chorleywood picked up another wicket and suddenly the game was back on. Lennox (making her debut for the U10s) batted bravely and seemed keen to take the sting out of the Chorleywood attack with some hard hitting, unfortunately finding well placed fielders more often than not. Our final pair of Nel and Tracey put on a further 15 for the loss of just one wicket to leave BCC at 261 for 3.
So with a reasonable total but on a pitch with short boundaries, it was important that BCC started well in the field and so it proved. Ormerod redeemed himself for his earlier run out by taking an early wicket, courtesy of a fine catch by Alderson at mid-on. This was followed two balls later by a run out through some excellent fielding by Clarke with a direct hit from a tight angle. Clarke then proceeded to almost put the game out of reach of Chorleywood with two wickets of his own in his first over. With Chorleywood at 189 – 4 after 4 overs, they needed to steady the ship but another hasty single and some accurate throwing by Ormerod led to a further run out and after defending stoutly against Nel and Lawlor could only reach 195 – 5 at the mid-way stage of their innings. With Tracey, Alderson, O’Gorman and Nel still with overs to bowl, BCC kept up the pressure. Despite a wet and heavy ball, they only gave away a further 18 runs in the second 8 overs and took a further 4 wickets in the process (Alderson finishing the innings with a double-wicket maiden to leave Chorleywood at 192-9 at the close).
Although the win looks comprehensive, BCC again struggled with the bat (scoring only 27 against an extras total of 49). We have a very good bowling attack but we need to start posting larger scores to give our bowlers something to defend. This of course will come as their confidence with the bat grows and we work on running between the wickets and the calling. The singles are out there boys!!
In summary though, a great performance in trying conditions. Well done!!
