Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 10 Blue v Watford Town on Thu 29 Apr 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 39 runs
Match report
Thankfully the rain held off for the first game of the season for BCC’s U10s against Watford.
Watford won the toss and opted to bat first but soon found themselves under pressure from the pacey Ben Tracey and some fine line and length from Charlie Ormerod (Ben on his debut taking 2 early wickets). Watford began to put runs on the board with their second pairing of Davy and Nathan but another fine display by Christian Nel on his debut (picking up two more wickets), pegged the total back. Good fielding including a fine catch by wicketkeeper Alfie Jones, further dented the Watford score and with Jake Alderson and Ben Tracey completing their overs in a tidy fashion, Watford were only able to post 206.
Not to be downhearted Watford came out with their tails up and the opening bowling pair took two quick wickets to leave BCC still at 200 after 4 overs. Game on! However BCC’s second pairing of Charlie and Jake put on 31 between them which swung the game back in BCC’s favour.
But still Watford did not give up the game and an inspired spell of bowling by the 3rd change (2 wickets in 2 balls) stopped the flow of BCC runs. Alas the hat-trick did not materialise. It was then left to the final BCC pair of Alfie Jones and William Hawksworth to hang on to their wickets which they did leaving BCC on 245-5 at the close.
Although the game may have appeared a little one-sided, the young Watford side never gave up and should take pride in their approach to the game. Well done all the boys for a great game.
