Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red v Boxmoor on Thu 10 Jun 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 9 runs
Match report
7-Up for the Boys! Despite freezing weather and strong opposition, the Under 9's overcame some fine bowling and determined batting to beat Boxmoor - & make it 7 wins out of 7 matches played so far this season!
No one can say that the elements suggested such a good game of cricket was to be played, but both teams gave their best in a close game - perhaps a little too close for our liking! James Weller was Captain for the day and maintained our 100% record of NEVER winning the toss, as Boxmoor elected to bat. With typical precision and skill, Tom L and Joe D restricted Boxmoor's opening pair to just 8 runs. Charlie and Will G then took up the battle and Charlie managed to take a key wicket for us and Will G chipped in (as ever) with a mixture of entertaining and deadly attack.
With Alfie trying some spin bowling and Nathan generating some real pace with a fine action, Boxmoor sent out their last pair with just 37 runs on the board. James and Tom M then bowled beautifully at the death to concede just another 5 runs by the close. 242 for 2 was the total to beat - which sounded quite easy..... ummm!
But, fair play to Boxmoor! Suddenly with the weather getting worse and the bowling accurate (& at times fast!), it was a race for BCC to complete their overs and get more than 242 before the rain started.
Solid, team-batting from all of the lads gradually got us into a winning position (with particular contributions from Tom M, Nathan and Alfie) but then poor Tom L and Joe D had to steer us home with runs still needed from the final over! Both batters played well and Joe quite rightly enjoyed the honour of hitting an invaluable 4 in the last over to seal the win and maintain a brilliant record for the Under 9 team.
Congratulations Berkhamsted and better luck next time Boxmoor!
