Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12B v Dunstable on Tue 16 Jun 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Dunstable won by 12 runs
Match report
Today we bowled tightly and had Dunstable on the rack at 4 for 18 in the 6th over. Wickets fell to Casey, Daniel with Peter taking a great catch off an edged ball bowled by Hamish. Rory effected a sharp run out off James Insch bowling. Daniel Angel and Casey were the pick of the bowler. Daniel with 4 over, 2 maiden, 1 for 5. Casey 3 overs, no maidens, 1 for 7. Munday, Ollie, James W and Allie W all bowled tidily conceding only 3 wides off their 6 overs. We managed to restrict Dunstable to 96 for 5. This was a target we could reach.
When we started batting, we needed just under 5 runs an over. The opening partnership of Daniel and Casey gave us a good start making 21 runs in 4 overs. Casey was then bowled and Hamish was run out shortly after. A splendid partnership between Daniel and Peter followed scoring 35 runs in 7 overs. At 2 for 58 in the 12th over we were still on target. Peter had been pushing the ball around nicely when he broke his bat and never quite got his rhythm back and was bowled. Daniel on 26 was then run out and Rory was caught shortly after. The pendulum had now swung a little toward Dunstable.
Alex had a short but magnificent innings scoring a quick 12 runs in 2 overs.
We were now back on target needing 19 runs in 4 overs. We still had five wickets in hand. The tension was mounting it was going to be a tight finish but through lack of experience and a positive attitude we panicked, tried to hit out instead of accumulating runs and lost 5 quick wickets in two overs. We were all out and had lost by 12 runs at the end of the 17th over.
It was disappointing to lose such a close match but Dunstable death bowlers were accurate and Dunstable deserved their win in this hard fought match.
