Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Rickmansworth IV on Sat 08 Jul 2017 at 1pm - limited overs (40)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report With only nine players available to the 4th XI on Friday morning, a feeling of frustration set-in amongst the what has become the core of the team. Was this going to be another weekend of no cricket for players wanting and deserving to represent the club on a weekly basis?

Luckily in came club veteran Sir Putman of Berkhamsted Cricket Club and debutant to the 4th XI Billy MacKay, to save us the blushes of playing with nine.

The toss was won (most likely because skipper didn't do the toss), and Dharmin chose to bowl first on a hard wicket... Much to the surprise of veterans Peplow and Drury. The thought-process for the decision being that skipper likes to let-loose the tenacity of his 4th XI and their do-or-die attitude by chasing.

The bowling... Billy and Dharmin bowled good lines and lengths, which deserved more than 0 wickets. Four dropped catches in the slip cordon may warrant a pre-match fielding drill or two next weekend. A fifty run opening partnership was broken by the go-to girl for the 4s at present, Jess Potts. One wicket, but deserving of more her controlled bowling down the hill left Rickmansworth's hefty middle-order stuck and Neil Murphy went about dismantling them with good lines (and very variable lengths)up the hill. Sir Putman frustrated the batsmen further with his wonderfully variable line and length bowling and Derek took an important caught and bowled leaving Pete Latyszonek a wicket to take with the first ball of his career with Berkhamsted. The rest of his 10-ball over was not as the first but he did finish with a wicket.

The batting... Since the skipper arrived at Berkhamsted 3 seasons ago as a result of Agent Peplow signing him up at Hemel Hempstead hospital. He often heard of this club legend's ability to take games away from the opposition single-handedly. Finally, the day came when he got to see this happen first hand. Peplow and Drury opened, putting on a 60 run partnership with wonderfully timed glances and very good running-between the wickets by both players. Unfortunately the fun ended as a the opposition started bowling better lines, and Pete was out caught at mid-wicket on 36. In came the skipper, mainly as a result of everybody else insisting he go before them, and being told to show he's better than 0 for 31... Well his unorthodox hitting and good running between the wickets with Peps paid-off and Berkhamsted were firmly rooted to win the game with ease at 115/2 off 26 overs. Jacob Lewarne batted exceptionally well and maturely in his first game back for Berkhamsted. He and Neil took their time to make the runs, but never panicked, finishing the chase with an over to spare.

A good team victory with all playing taking-part greatly! On to Bushey Swamps!
