Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Old Albanian won by 156 runs

Match report The B Team were outclassed by a talented Old Albanians team - result Old Albanians 332 for 2, Berkhamsted 176 for 13.

Berkhamsted captain Jack Hunter won the toss and elected to bowl first. We started well enough and all of the boys showed a marked improvement in the consistency and accuracy of their bowling. Unfortunately the Old Albanian batsmen were latching onto any remotely wayward or slower balls and scored freely throughout the innings - their top scorers hitting 23, 20 and 15. Highlights for Berkhamsted were a couple of catches off Dominic Fidler and Sebastian O'Gorman's bowling. More generally, we chased the ball down well in the field (when it didn't go straight to the boundary!) and made some good stops. A couple of half chances went to ground but brave attempts nonetheless.

It was always going to be an uphill struggle given the target so the boys were instructed to be really positive about their running and concentrate on getting ones and twos where they could. However, the quality of the OA's bowling attack made it very difficult for us and we struggled to make any headway. The boys tried to keep to the task in hand but we continued to lose wickets consistently throughout. Top scorer was Jandre Nel with 7 in the opening pair, including one 4. Max Purdy in the last pair also got a 4.

The result brought us back down to earth after the previous win against Potten End. It's fair to say that we lost to a better team but there's no shame in that. We're gradually starting to improve the quality and consistency in our play so lots to be positive about.
