Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday XI v Black Rose of Highgate on Sun 16 Jun 2013 at 2pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Players hungry for a game after a disappointing washout saturday were greeted by another cold drizzly early afternoon, Peps was already on 'spooks' duty looking on at the nets as the opposition warmed up. Toss duly lost, and off to the field we went. Josh quickly removed the openers with ease with good support from Doug, but thoughts of an early tea disappeared as the middle order got to grips with the conditions and with a stubborn 100 from there number 5, 250 plus looked on the cards, a good run out courtesy of a swooping Pratty and good bowling from Doug and Josh at the end put the brakes on and Black rose finished on a good score of 228,
After munching our way through a gazillion strawberries in our excellent tea, Chris Debonnaire, in his first match of the season and Luke Frey took to the wicket and both batted well to put 40 on in the first 6 overs, then the fireworks began and what was truly an amazing innings with a broken harrow bat by Chris, where he absolutely middled everything with a flurry of 4's and 6's, and when he did rarely miss the ball simply bounced over the stumps for byes. He was now outscoring Luke, who is no slouch, by 2-1, the 100 run partnership came up in the 11th over, then Luke fell LBW for an excellent 35. This did not stop Chris as he began thinking his surname was Gayle as he smashed his way to the 90's. an exchange of singles pushed him up to 97 and a smash through mid wicket for 4 brought up a remarkable 100 in only the 17th over, probably in under 60 balls. Huge applause from the balcony, sadly next ball Chris missed a top spinner and lost his off stump for a magnificent 101.
The runs then dried up, ball turning left and right, and a few wickets tumbled as Black Rose valiantly tried to get back into the game, but Captain Foster came to the rescue, despite adding to his list of 'run out' victims to win the game by 4 wickets. Well done Chris, an innings to savour!
