Abbots Langley v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 13A on Mon 24 Jun 2013 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost BCC lost by 8 wickets
Match report
A dose of reality as BCC comprehensively beaten.
After last week’s worthy win at Dunstable the boys were quite rightly upbeat about reversing the early season defeat by Abbots Langley but how things change!
BCC were put into bat and were immediately under pressure from a very tight, pacey and at times aggressive bowling attack and struggled to get the scoreboard ticking. The wickets soon began to tumble with only Charlie (18) and Max (10) able to make any headway and before long BCC were all out for a miserly 61.
Two years ago we had successfully defended 65 against Abbots but they are a different side now and it was always going to be a difficult task not helped by far too many short deliveries that were duly punished. With the run rate up at about 7 an over BCC needed some luck but a couple of dropped catches, one a very difficult chance in the deep which resulted in a cut and bruised finger for Tom, meant we were never really in it. Pick of the bowlers was Toby who bowled a good line and grabbed the only wicket of the game aside from a sharp run out which saw off AL’s number 2. Credit should go to the batsman who, with the umpire unsighted for the run-out appeal, walked, showing a commendable attitude in keeping to the spirit of the game.
BCC now need to refocus for their final game against Rickmansworth next week.
